A Sideways Market?Markets go up and markets go down. At the present it is my opinion that we are in a sideways market. A Sideways market is defined as a situation where stock prices change little over a specified period of time. Time will tell if my personal opinion is correct. When I look for information on the current state of the market I turn to the professional money managers whose job it is to ultimately determine whether or not to buy or sell investment funds. A recent conference call that I participated in shed one such opinion on the current state of the market and what the manager predicts will occur in his opinion of the markets going forward. His thoughts are that the markets will continue to be choppy but that plays into his stock picking expertise. The Big picture is positive. Employment and Housing especially in the U.S will improve faster than what the market predicts. The U.S consumer isn’t in as bad a shape as everyone believes.
