The Taxman is Coming

April 30th, 2010 is the deadline for filing your 2009 personal income tax return.

Locate your Notice of Assessment - which is the form that the Canada Revenue Agency sends to you after processing your tax return. The Notice of Assessment that you are looking for references the 2008 tax year as indicated on the top of page 1.

The Notice of Assessment will provide you with the amount that you can contribute to either your RRSP or a Spousal RRSP. The deadline for making contributions to an RRSP that can be used to reduce your taxable income is March 1, 2010.

The Notice of Assessment also provides you and your tax preparer with other relevant information such as the homebuyers repayment, the lifelong learning plan repayment, unused RRSP contributions or capital losses of previous years.

We are now operating seven days a week until April 30, 2010 with one week of holidays planned from March 29 until April 2.

To make an RRSP contribution before March 1, 2010; for more information on filing for the 2009 tax year; or to set up an appointment; please contact Tom Fehr at tfehr@fehrfinancial.com, phone (204) 487-7242, or phone toll-free (877) 370-0262.
